Hawaii Health Systems Corporation

The Hawaii Health Systems Corporation (HHSC) was created in 1996 to govern all Hawaii hospitals. The HHSC is overseen by the Division of Community Hospitals, Department of Health, State of Hawaii. Designed more than 100 years ago as a tuberculosis facility, Kula Hospital has grown to employ more than 200 professionals. Hilo is the largest facility in the HHSC, and it opened in 1897. It has grown from having 10 beds to having 275 licensed beds, with more than 1,000 employees and 250 community physicians, physician assistants, and Advanced Practice Registered Nurses on staff.
